El Dorado
130X100 cm
Description
For centuries people have traveled the world in search of (more) gold. In ancient times everything was put against gold to decide it’s value. This piece of art is all 22K goldleaf and inspired by El Dorado, the mythical golden city somewhere in the northern part of South America. El Rey Dorado (the golden king), was the term used by the Spanish Empire to describe a mythical tribal chief (zipa) of the Muisca native people of Colombia, who, as an initiation rite, covered himself with Gold dust. The legends surrounding El Dorado changed over time, as it went from being a man, to a city, to a kingdom, and then finally an empire. We adore the myth and we adore the body being covered in gold, reviving El Reina Dorado in the 21st century.
